Facing Deerfield, Bruins earn a trifecta of wins

Brunswick's lacrosse team hosted Deerfield on Saturday. The "Green Doors" swung into Greenwich with a #7 national ranking and a history of victories against the Bruins. The year it was a different story, as David beat Goliath and Brunswick earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory.

Coach David Bruce praised his team’s outstanding execution.
“We needed to play a perfect game to give ourselves a chance,” Bruce said. “We laid out the game plan in the days leading up the game and the players executed perfectly.”

“Our three captains — Charlie Better, Peter Khoury and Jack DeFrino — did a great job of keeping our guys focused and believing,” he said.

“Charlie Better delivered a speech in the locker room recognizing all the hard work of previous teams and alumni to put us in this position,” Bruce continued. “He made the team realize this was not only important to those currently in the locker room but also the countless of players who have worn the Brunswick jersey in the past.”

“To put it simply, we’re proud of this accomplishment,” Bruce said. “It was a great win for everyone who has ever been involved with the program.”

The JV Gold lacrosse team won, too, in dramatic fashion, scoring in double overtime to win, 4-3. As the Deerfield teams headed north on I-91, they may have passed our varsity tennis team headed south, as the Bruins traveled to face Deerfield for what is believed to be the first time in Brunswick tennis history. The tennis team swept its opponents, 7-0.

Three cheers for three hard-fought and record-setting Bruins victories!
